At a recent Manchester United home game against Bournemouth, Jordan Mainoo-Hames wore a shirt saying 'Free Kobbie Mainoo'. He is the half-brother of United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. This caught the eye of former United captain Roy Keane.
Keane said it was not a smart choice. He added, 'We should not overreact or give it too much attention. Sometimes you are around people who make bad choices, even in your family.' Keane thinks the shirt was not needed.
Kobbie Mainoo has had little playing time this season under coach Rubén Amorim. Last season under Erik ten Hag, he was important. The 20-year-old has not started a league match yet. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are playing midfield instead. Keane hopes Mainoo stays patient and works hard.
Keane stressed patience for young players like Mainoo. He said, 'If a coach does not trust you yet, prove him wrong with your play.' Keane wants Mainoo to focus on training and games.
Mainoo played for England at age 18. Keane thinks this quick success may have changed his focus. He remembered a game where Mainoo took time to thank fans after leaving the field. Keane feels Mainoo should work on his skills, not seek fan cheers.
