On December 18, during a regular training routine, Yussuf Poulsen encountered an unfortunate accident, twisting his left ankle. For Poulsen, who had just gotten back into action after dealing with previous muscle problems, this is yet another hurdle to overcome. The team's medical staff now faces the task of managing his recovery as efficiently as possible.
The injury has rendered Poulsen unavailable for Hamburg's imminent clash against Eintracht Frankfurt. According to Coach Merlin Polzin, Poulsen is expected to recover over several weeks, possibly sidelining him until January. This absence is less than ideal for the club, whose plans now require urgent adjustments.
There is apprehension within the HSV camp that Poulsen might be facing a severe ligament injury. This suspicion has prompted the club to arrange further medical evaluations to accurately understand the severity of his condition. The potential for a prolonged recovery period looms large.
Yussuf Poulsen is not the sole absentee from the field for HSV. Besides him, strikers Ransford Königsdörffer and Robert Glatzel are also recovering from their injuries. This trio's absence presents significant selection challenges for Coach Polzin as he strategizes for future encounters.
Poulsen is relatively new to the Hamburger SV setup, having transferred this summer from Leipzig. Since becoming a part of HSV, he has participated in eight fixtures, contributing one goal, scoring earlier this December in a matchup against Werder Bremen. His role is expected to be pivotal once he regains fitness.
